Age of Stone (Rise of Mankind 1) by Jez Cajiao

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer…” I muttered aloud, working my way through the litany of fear, memories of watching the original movie years ago coming to mind and calming me.

In all the games Matt has played, Dungeons are places to raid, places you dream of conquering, but when the world is stripped of electricity, and the first mana-twisted beasts start to prowl, the games all come to an end…

Matt’s just an ordinary guy, but when he’s beaten, robbed, and left for dead, bleeding out at the bottom of a gully, it all has to change as he grasps frantically at his only chance for survival, coming as it does in the form of a glowing, dangerously pulsing light.

With his reality forever altered, Matt must quickly find a suitable place to deploy the Dungeon Core, fighting his way through the hundreds of people between him and safety, because if he doesn’t do it soon, a Core Detonation will solve all of his problems for him… permanently.

Welcome to the New World.

Another litRPG where the world basically ends and starts anew with the introduction of leveling and magic. The interesting thing that is different about this particular book is that I think the depiction of that switch, though darker, is much more realistic.

In a time when all electricity is taken from earth and leveling is introduced, the world descend into a purge like state where looting and killing and chaos become the norm.

Unlike in other similar stories where the world stays organized and factions and communities are established and grow. This series gives a look into the darker reality where fear and chaos reign when the world is turned on its head.

Oh and also there is a terrifying creature that inhabits the body of a little girl and slowly gets bigger until the only recognizable human feature is the girl’s face stretched over a too big skull, but you know thats not terrifying at all. Haha

In my mind I would put this in a more grim dark type litRPG which I think it’s one of the reasons I really enjoyed it. I am a huge fan of grim dark fantasy, and this very much played into that interest for me.
